Rate My Professor: A Good Source of Background Information

Do you know Professor David Mease?  No?  Maybe you should.  He teaches business at San Jose State University and is the top-ranked prof (out of one million) on the site Rate My Professors.

Each year Rate My Professors compiles a list of the top teachers based on ratings and comments from students. The website also ranks schools, based on reputation, location, career opportunities, school library, campus grounds and common areas, Internet speed on campus, campus food, clubs and events, social activities and whether or not students are happy with the decision to attend the school.   The top five: Brigham Young, Florida State, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Michigan and University of Georgia.  Way to go, Wolverines!

What else did we learn from this fun site?  Students have strong opinions, and some of them could be useful to you, an aspiring college student.  Many factors will influence your choice of schools. Keep an open mind, and figure out what matters most to you before setting your heart on a college just because you have heard of it or because your sister goes there.

After spending some time on this site, you might want to find out more about Diane Pirtle, a sociology professor at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California. Or James White, who teaches music at Penn State.

How about Mike Morrison, a top history prof at Purdue? Chances are you haven’t heard of any of these instructors, but you might want to learn more about their schools.
