Scholarships You May Not Know About

Still looking for scholarship opportunities? Wow Writing Workshop has you covered.  This week, we share info on some of the later or lesser-known opportunities for college cash.

Healthy Lifestyle Scholarship
Hey seniors, why is a healthy lifestyle important in school?  If you can answer that question in 1,000 words before April 30, you may earn a $5,000 scholarship. A second essay (500 words) asks you to describe your career plans, goals and personal ambitions.

The Healthy Lifestyles Scholarship, established in memory of an occupational therapist, goes to one student each year.  High school seniors and first-year college students under the age of 25 are eligible. The deadline is fast approaching.  All you need is a desire to live well.

Tip: You might want to work out before writing that essay!

Award: $5,000 (1)

Deadline: April 30

Bipolar Lives Scholarship
Bipolar disorder can be a lifelong, debilitating condition.  If you are a sufferer, you may have doubts about your abilities.  Here’s what Sarah Freeman,  who funded the Bipolar Lives Scholarship says to you:

“Many people with bipolar disorder are extremely talented but fail to realize their potential. Higher education seems like the right place to focus on.”

This essay requirement is different from others; do not write a story about your personal struggles. Rather, your essay should contain useful and interesting info on bipolar disorder. Essays could address (but are not limited to) one of the following topics: symptoms of bipolar disorder, treatment of bipolar disorder, treatment centers, bipolar disorder and creativity, or families and bipolar disorder.  Length: 450-900 words.

Award: $1,000(1)

Deadline: June 11
